This beautiful ceramic-type owl was made, hand painted and glazed in Mexico, (1960’s) which is imprinted on the lower right corner of the figure. It looks like it may have been a bank at one time and broken into before my purchasing it. The artwork is intricate and colorful. The Aztecs and the Mayans considered the “owl” as a symbol of death and destruction. The sculpted features are exaggerated with huge head and eyes. Ridged around the edges denotes ruffled feathers. Artwork on the back shows a bird in a fruit tree and the base narrows to the back to represent the tail. Colors are in shades of browns and grays with black eyes. It measures 10″ L X 5″ W X 10 1/2″ H. Good condition Related
