The Sea Monsters illustration is an original woodcut from the chapter Scandinavia and the North in the book Cosmographia by Sebastian Münster. The maps and illustrations in the book are among the most important in the 16th century, including one of the earliest depictions of America as a whole continent. The Sea Monsters illustration measures 24 x 34 cm and is signed in the woodblock by the artist and the wood engraver M-F and H.R. MD (1550).
